Spite is an on going project i am currently working on, A graphic one-off novel. I am a comic-book nerd, this is the first art form i truly fell in love with, digesting so many that I couldn't keep my collection in my room and adding it to the family library when i was young.
I had a project in my second year of ACAD that required me to make a scene with an unknown narrative. What i came up with was a dark scene in a room with two figures with animal heads, something sinister had happened there, but giving no real explanation of the narrative, leaving the view to always guess what everything meant. I left the idea as it was and moved on in my artistic pursuits. I was a part-time newspaper driver for a short time, while i was out driving at 3 AM on a Tuesday at -25 i couldn't help but be engaged by the lights of the night, the shadows of few individuals out in this frozen hell and sparked an interest to revisit the non-narrative that i had made before.
A six issue revenge Neon-Noir, full of moral ambiguity and ultra-violence. I wanted to tell a complete and concise story with little written narrative and the story mostly being told visually. So all the statements are made as one sentence or partial thoughts, having most of the story told through body language and character interaction. The characters have unknown back stories, that most of the characters know about each other, but the viewer has to produce themselves as the story unfolds. The characters have animal heads, not because they are actually anthropomorphic animals, but to show the characters personality. To us they look like animals, to each other they look like people. There are no good guys in the story, they are all morally corrupt and bad people, though there is a Protagonist and antagonist. The colours are told through the lighting of the scene, using neon acrylic paint. Because the comic is being painted on panel instead of digitally like how most comic books are done now, i have to photograph the work. Because i have to photograph the work anyway, I am going to have two versions of each comicbook; in regular white lighting and a version under black and blue lighting so the colours really pop.

These are the work in progress photos for it.
